CareFusion is to create 35 new jobs at its manufacturing centre in Gort, Co Galway.

The global medical device company has its headquarters in San Diego, and employs over 15,000 worldwide.

Originally formed in Ireland, CareFusion now employs 15,000 people globally

However, the firm was originally established in Ireland in 2006, with just 12 employees.

Following its success, CareFusion plans to expand its Galway facility and recruit more staff to assist the 90 currently employed in the region.

Recruiting for the new positions will take place over the next year.

The Gort site manufactures diagnostic and monitoring medical equipment for neurological, vascular and respiratory disorders, distributing to over 70 countries worldwide.

Making the announcement on Thursday, Minister Bruton said: “Today’s announcement is further confirmation that Ireland remains a key location for investments by international companies in the medical devices sector.

“I am committed to ensuring that we continue to win even more high value investments that will provide new high quality jobs across the country in the coming years.”
